DISTRESS & LISTENING Coordinator

We're looking for a motivated self-starter to coordinate our work for young people who face mental health and wellbeing challenges in Dundee to refine our listening services, develop drop-in support services, and create connections. In this role you will work with other staff members, volunteers and partner organisations to promote better outcomes for our young people. This is a part-time role (0.6 FTE) and fixed term for 6 months.

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who are young people with lived experience of mental health and wellbeing challenges.

who are feeling strong?

We exist to make sure that every young person in Dundee who has experienced a mental health or wellbeing challenge is supported to reach their full potential. We deliver projects, services and campaigns in the community to tackle stigma, build confidence, develop resources, create networks and most importantly support the positive recovery journey of our young people. Our services are designed by young people, delivered by young people, and for young people - we believe that this youth-led/peer-led approach is our biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing.

what would my role be?

We're looking for a member of staff to coordinate our work in directly supporting young people with peer support and listening services, developing drop-in support services and creating connections. Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

Some training and induction will be provided, and we expect the candidate to develop skills once in post, but we are looking for candidates to demonstrate intermediate skills, experience or knowledge of:

  • Understanding the mental health and wellbeing challenges young people face

  • Ability to confidently use office software such as mail, calendar and spreadsheets

  • Good standards of written and verbal communication

And, whilst not essential, we would also welcome candidates with skills, experience or knowledge of the following:

  • Peer support or listening experience

  • Working in a mental health or youth work environment

  • Working in the third sector
