The Details

Feeling Strong is an exciting new Dundee-based charity with the ambition to improve the lives of young people living with mental health and wellbeing challenges by fostering the skills, confidence and aspirations they need to flourish. We believe strongly that our services should be designed by young people, delivered by young people for the benefit of young people. We want to use skills development, mentoring and confidence building to promote positive outcomes for young people, tackling the disparity they face in unemployment, underemployment and accessing opportunities like further and higher education.

We are a promising, high-momentum start-up, having secured further project funding to deliver nine projects on behalf of young people with mental health challenges in Dundee.

The 'Wellbeing Matters' project is designed to teach young people with mental health and wellbeing challenges the 'tools of the trade' for working in film, exploring themes of mental health and the city of Dundee. Five groups of young people will each lead a film project, deciding on what topics to cover and who to interview for each subject. In addition, a number of young people will be given 'vlogging kits' and training to document their own stories and experiences of the project. Wood Chip Films will be delivering training in all aspects of creating the video pieces including using the cameras, setting up lighting for interview situations, audio recording and interview techniques. The young people involved in the project will also be responsible for curating a local mental health film festival and a campaign encouraging younger people to access cultural resources to improve mental health and wellbeing.
